Nowadays, some individuals that the primary driving force behind the majority of criminal activities is the lack of financial resources, commonly known as poverty. It is believed that financial hardship can indeed incline individuals towards criminal behavior, poverty is a significant root cause of most crimes and I totally agree with this statement.
Firstly, the correlation between poverty and the prevalence of crime in different societies. Put differently, individuals living in poverty often encounter limited opportunities for employment and education, leading them to resort to illegal activities as a means of survival. For example, a study conducted in several low-income neighborhoods demonstrated a link between poverty and the occurrence of property crimes like theft and burglary. Hence, policymakers must implement targeted interventions that alleviate poverty.
Furthermore, poverty not only increases the likelihood of individuals engaging in criminal activities but also perpetuates a vicious cycle of criminal behavior. This means that growing up in impoverished conditions with restricted access to necessities and quality education makes individuals more prone to being ensnared in a cycle of intergenerational poverty and crime. For instance, several countries have child militants who do not have basic literature.
