Band 8+: Some people think that the teenage years are the happiest times of most people's lives. Others think that adult life brings more happiness, in spite of greater responsibilities. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion. In this task you should: Explain the first point of view Explain the second point of view Add your opinion

Some say that most people have the happiest life when they are between 13 and 19 years old, while others argue that adulthood brings more happy moments despite greater responsibilities. This essay will argue that although adult life provides more freedom, teenage years offer the opportunity to enjoy life without significant worries.

Adults have a greater sense of independence than teenagers. People older than 19 often leave their hometowns to study at university or start working, thereby reducing parental control. For example, adults can go out even late at night, which allows them to enjoy a variety of activities they could not do during their teenage years, such as attending late-night social events or traveling without restrictions. Moreover, adults have the financial means to pursue their interests and hobbies, which can enhance their overall happiness and life satisfaction. However, I do not support the view that this independence necessarily leads to greater happiness.

Teenagers have a happier life because they have fewer responsibilities. Parents usually try to make their children’s lives as easy and comfortable as possible, creating conditions for them to enjoy their young years. For instance, teenagers do not worry about maintaining a constant income, paying debts, or working from 9 to 5 every day. This allows them to communicate freely and go out with friends, creating positive memories and strong social bonds. Additionally, the teenage years are often filled with new and exciting experiences, such as first loves, school events, and the thrill of discovering one’s passions and talents.

In conclusion, while adult life offers opportunities for independence and new experiences, I believe life is happier when a person is young due to having fewer responsibilities and more freedom to enjoy life. The carefree nature of the teenage years, coupled with the support of parents, allows teenagers to fully embrace and enjoy their youth.
