In today’s world, some argue that watching television has a negative impact on children in every aspect, while others firmly believe that it is a useful tool for them to widen their knowledge. Personally, I am still of the opinion that watching television brings a flood of dare drawbacks to children.
On the one hand, proponents of the statement that watching television has some positive effects often state several reasons. To be specific, children can have a better understanding of the world around them such as the ecological system and plants’ habitats via many enlightening channels on TV. Moreover, they may improve their English skills by engaging in some online classes related to English debate on VTV3. Take, for example, Nhi, who is my dynamic and enthusiastic sister, can simultaneously stay current on current affairs, such as politics, law and environmental issues and let off some steam by watching cartoons and comedies on her weekend time.
On the flip side, despite some benefits, there are several downsides that need to be mentioned. The first one is that young people these days can spend a significant amount of time watching television, so they can suffer from remarkable symptoms, such as fatigue and eyestrain. Additionally, besides many intellectual programmes, other channels contain violent and obscene content, whether good or bad. This has led to the misleading of youngsters to believe that those should be encouraged to learn and develop. For instance, a 15-year-old boy had unintentionally killed his parents in order to earn more money for drugs’ purchase because of following a toxic video on television.
In conclusion, watching television not only has some positive impacts to a certain extent but also exerts a negative influence on children through their mental health and education.
