Band 7+: Some people view teenage conflict with their parents as a necessary part of growing up, whilst others see it as something negative which should be avoided. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In today’s society, teenagers often hold different opinions than their parents, leading to conflicts. While disagreements between parents and children can contribute to their growth and development, I believe such conflicts should be minimized.

There are several reasons why disagreements between parents and children should be prevented. Firstly, these conflicts can create significant mental stress for teenagers. When parents use harsh words, children may take them negatively, potentially harming their mental development. Secondly, such disagreements can result in social distancing, as children feel unable to share their thoughts and feelings with their parents.

On the other hand, some argue that conflict between parents and children is crucial for fostering their growth and development. They contend that children can learn that parental guidance is ultimately for their benefit. Additionally, more conflict might strengthen the love and bond between them over time.

Despite these arguments, I believe discussions between parents and teenagers should be approached with caution, as this is a particularly vulnerable age; negative experiences can have lasting effects. Instead of arguments, parents should engage in loving discussions, soliciting their children’s feedback or suggestions for improvement. This approach can foster a positive relationship built on love and mutual understanding.

In conclusion, since conflicts can adversely affect children’s mental health, it is essential for parents to avoid arguments. Instead, they should focus on expressing love and providing constructive suggestions to strengthen their bond.
