It is predicted that computers will be superior to humans in terms of intelligence. Some people see this as a positive change while others are afraid of its negative outcomes. Artificial intelligence has infinite intellectual capacity and it can eliminate bias and prejudice, but I consider that it might lead to loss of human control and socioeconomic inequality.
Humans have cognitive restrictions and they need to have a rest to work better. However, unlike humans, computers can analyze massive amounts of information in an unprecedented speed with no rest. Human brain controls many functions at the same time such as thinking, digesting and breathing, but microchips-brain of computer-focus only on given task, which leads to faster and better data analysis. For example, people are using artificial intelligence in many fields like drug discovery and climate modeling because it has no intellectual limit and no restrictions that humans have.
Computers have a capacity to eliminate human biases. Computers work according to given algorithms, and they do not have human feelings, leading to make bias-free decisions. For instance, while hiring applicant, employers consider about not only candidate’s skill and experience but also their ethnicity or gender. But applying computers in this process reduces possibility of biases.
However, there potential negative consequences to consider. Humans have intellectual limit; if computers have unlimited intelligence, they will be uncontrollable. As they evolve, computers might make complex decisions that are beyond human comprehension, causing many suffering. For instance, home security system adapts constantly and becomes more advanced, and one day it might deny me based on its over complicated algorithms. Consequently, I cannot enter to my own home.
Use of intelligent computers will have a negative impact on our economical balance. As intelligent machines take away human jobs, the rate of unemployment increases, destroying socioeconomic status. Employers prefer unlimited labour to limited one, and,as a consequence, they hire computers instead of humans. Upper-class starts being more rich with the help of unlimited labor capacity; at the same time, lower-class faces with economic problems.
Personally I believe that development of intellectual computers is a negative change. They may cause many social issues such as imbalanced economical growth, and their evolution can be dangerous due to overcomplexity.
