Band 6+: Task 2: Some people think that environmental problems are too big for individuals to solve. Others believe that individuals can also do some things to solve these problems. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Environmental concerns are considered weighty topics for individuals to solve. Conversely, many are convinced that people can improve the situation. In this essay, both views are examined and I will introduce my perspective, advocating for the value of grassroots actions to protect the natural environment.

First and foremost, the supporters of the first opinion, emphasize the problems of atomized society, thus inability to significantly change the root of the problems. Nowadays, it is hard to imagine a community, where every part of it wants to shoulder the shared responsibility for the environmental consequences. As a result, the low level of social resilience and solidarity curb people from advance actions. For example, in countries with undeveloped self-governance institutions, citizens can’t face the challenge of increasing airway pollution due to ongoing working factories and successfully win the battle with corporate greed.

Nevertheless, many people advocate that even small actions can make a contribution to the environmental protection. If there are not opportunity to expose profound impact on major concerns, citizens can diminish or even eliminate source of pollution made by themselves. By promoting several minor activities, which don’t require a lot of efforts, namely collecting and sorting rubbish, planting trees can encourage the rest of community to positively change their environment. For instance, the programme of returning plastic bottles in EU for checks, footing your bill in a local supermarket, mildly decreased the problem of plastic usage.

From my point of view, the raising importance of the global climate through the past decades has completely erased a border between major and minor contributors to the Earth protection. Moreover, a reckless attitude toward our planet gradually worsens living standards as long as every individual will neglect his part of common shared responsibility. For example, the acknowledgement of this matter saved several African regions from absolute deforestation, preserving tropical forests for next generations.

In conclusion, further mutual cooperation is required to raise the awareness of ecological concerns to address them effectively and rapidly. Although isolated individuals cannot have influence as great as corporations, minor actions would make a difference at least at a local level.
