Advantage And Disadvantage

Band 5+: Tests and examinations are a central feature of school systems in many countries. Do you think the educational benefits of testing outweigh any disadvantages?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In many countries, schools consider tests and examinations as the main feature of their systems. From the primary to the senior secondary section, periodic assessments are conducted to evaluate the student’s progress in their studies. I strongly agree that the pros of testing outweigh the cons.

First of all, education has become an important of one’s life. The knowledge we gain from our school is used in our daily life. The gradual shift from the primary school to the middle school is crucial. To keep up the consistency in learning, continuous assessment tests are required so that, not only, do students realize their mistakes, but also, they learn from them. For instance, in classes 1 to 4, children are taught subjects like EVS, basics in Mathematics, like addition, and subtraction, and in English reading stories. In higher grades, all these subjects are taught at an advanced level. So to build a strong base, exams conducted at each class help students to learn and understand better.

Meanwhile, some students face difficulty in taking exams. They, sometimes, fear that they may make mistakes and this thought reduces their self-esteem. Peer pressure is also a factor that students face during the exam season. To get good grades, they study overnight without sleeping. This affects their mental health and their social well-being. Most of them, just for the sake of exams, memorize the topic and forget once the exams are over. This makes students unclear of subjects and later struggle in their future.

Overall, there are both advantages and disadvantages of examinations conducted in schools. However, students must be given theoretical as well as practical knowledge to excel in their life.
