In today’s era, news channels are emphasising bad news, including reporting on crime, wars, and accidents. The prime reason to promote these kinds of events is to increase the viewership and create urgency among the audience and the government. In my opinion, news reporting should be a combination of negative and positive stories.
One of the main reasons why news with violence is promoted is to seek attention from the spectators, which ultimately leads to a great source of income for both news channels and television reporters. Furthermore, this is a strategy through which news channels build their reputation among the readers; the more viewers means more reliable the information. For instance, recently the war in Iran is a hot topic for each and every news channel is reporting, but one with more views consider as trustworthy in terms of rating.
However, I strongly believe that the news should include both good and bad stories. Constant exposure to negative news can make people feel anxious, stressed, and pessimistic about society. On the other hand, positive news such as scientific achievements, acts of kindness, or community success stories can inspire and motivate people. For example, reporting on environmental projects or individuals helping others during difficult times can encourage society to become more supportive and optimistic.
In conclusion, bad news dominates the media because it attracts more attention and generates profit. Nevertheless, I believe that a balanced approach including both positive and negative news would be more beneficial for individuals and society as a whole.
