Some people believe that the only reason to work is just salary, with no meaningful motivation involved. While I agree that earning a wage is an essential and practical reason to work, I believe that there are other valuable reasons to work beyond just money.
True, making money through working hard offers a number of benefits. Firstly, money is a strong motivator, helping people to cover their expenses, improving their living standards, and feeling secure about their future. Without stable income, they cannot meet their needs, which can lead to struggling financially and, in turn, starting to feel depressed. For instance, a single mom is highly likely to work in a demanding job for longer hours to receive a higher salary to provide her children with food or education. Therefore, it is no wonder why money is regarded as the main driving force behind hard work.
Despite the fact that earning money is essential for securing a stable life, I am of the view that many people are driven by a deeper sense of purpose and a desire for personal fulfillment. For many individuals, work is not just about financial rewards, but about contributing to society, pursuing passions, and finding meaning in their daily activities. They value personal growth, helping others, and feeling a sense of accomplishment in their chosen fields. In this sense, personal fulfillment can often outweigh the materialistic drive for wealth, as it leads to a more satisfied and meaningful life.
To sum up, while earning a salary is a necessary and practical reason to work, it is not the only motivation. In my opinion, personal fulfillment, career growth, and the desire to contribute to society are equally important reasons that give work deeper meaning.
