Advantage And Disadvantage

Band 8+: The use of social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, are replacing face-to-face contact in this century. Do you think the advantages of this way outweigh the disadvantages?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In the age of technology, many people prefer to use social media platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter, to communicate or connect with others rather than meeting face-to-face. In my opinion, this shift has more advantages than disadvantages.

On one hand, meetings conducted through social media can sometimes be disrupted. For instance, a poor internet connection can lead to loss of communication, leaving participants feeling frustrated and affecting their engagement in the meeting. Consequently, the quality of these meetings may decline, which can negatively impact productivity and work progress. Additionally, relying on social media for interaction can create a disconnect between individuals, as they miss out on opportunities for real-life interactions. This lack of physical presence can weaken the bonds in relationships.

On the other hand, communicating through social media can significantly save people time and money. When individuals meet in person, they often have to travel, which incurs costs for transportation and can consume valuable time. Moreover, participating in online meetings allows individuals to multitask, which can be especially beneficial for those with caregiving responsibilities, such as women who need to look after their children while working. Furthermore, the rise of online communication has broadened the scope of the workplace; many companies now recruit employees online, allowing for remote training and work. This is particularly convenient for students and others seeking flexible work arrangements.

In conclusion, although there are some drawbacks to meetings conducted via social media, the advantages far outweigh these challenges. Therefore, people should embrace this change to save time and enhance their lives.
