Band 7+: The world's natural resources are consumed at an ever-increased rate. What are the dangers of this situation? What should we do?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In today’s world, natural resources are increasingly consumed. While this could contaminate the environment and destroy natural habitats, I would argue that investing in renewable energy sources and curbing agricultural development are sensible solutions.

The growing use of natural resources leads to environmental damage and habitat destruction. Firstly, fossil fuels are predominantly used these days to provide fuels for cars and run factories. Consequently, increasing gas emissions and exhaust fumes released from them will severely pollute the air and water, humans therefore may become more prone to related diseases. Secondly, agricultural activities are also developing across the globe rapidly, which necessitates the destruction of natural habitats to allow for the expansion of such industry. In developed countries, such as England, numerous animals have already lost their homes due to the development of agriculture. The food chain there has been relatively disrupted, possibly causing an ecological crisis.

However, governments and individuals can collaborate to tackle the issues mentioned effectively. By investing more in the research and development of renewable energy sources, governments can further harness environmentally friendly energy, specifically wind, solar, or water power. This will reduce the reliance on fossil fuels, mitigating their devastating impacts on the environment. Regarding the problem of agriculture, authorities can introduce laws to limit its scale, so the agricultural industry will be incapable of expanding. Another solution is to provide funding for this industry to design more efficient technologies, which require less land and can still maintain productivity.

In conclusion, the rapid consumption of natural resources is undeniably damaging the environment and destroying natural habitats. However, these issues could be addressed by facilitating the use of environmentally friendly energy and limiting agricultural expansion.
