Positive And Negative

Band 9: Today more and more people want things instantly (eg. goods, services, news) Why is this? Is it positive or negative development?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Nowadays, the proliferation of technology has accelerated our lives, leading to an increased preference for immediate fulfillment. This trend brings both benefits and drawbacks, which will be explored in this essay along with their underlying causes.

The desire for immediate action signifies significant advancements over the decades. Today, technological developments and widespread accessibility allow people to easily access services and fulfill demands within minutes. This helps in reducing time spent on unnecessary activities, allowing individuals to focus on more essential tasks. For instance, through simple interactions on various platforms, individuals can effortlessly book plane tickets or order food, overcoming geographical and climatic barriers that traditional methods face. In this sense, minimizing unnecessary activities not only reduces environmental impact but also demonstrates substantial progress compared to previous generations.

However, the insistence on immediate responses can have negative consequences when access is not readily available. Overreliance on technology can contribute to an increase in health issues such as obesity or heart disease. This is particularly detrimental as it significantly impacts mental health and requires substantial resources for mitigation, ultimately impacting workforce productivity and national economies. Furthermore, the reliability of technological conveniences does not always match their benefits, as there is no guarantee against poor product quality or the risk of losing private information through unreliable websites.

In conclusion, the trend towards immediate gratification is indicative of progress and serves as a foundation for a more advanced future. However, it also highlights challenges related to public health and cybersecurity. Balancing these aspects will be crucial in harnessing the full potential of technological advancements while mitigating their drawbacks
