In current times, the number of overweight people has witnessed an upward trend, which presents a pressing concern globally. From my perspective, there are several factors that contribute to this prevalence. Moreover, its impact on individuals should not be overlooked.
To begin with, a sedentary lifestyle drives people to overweightness. It is apparent that modern living provides convenience for citizens, which may lead to an inactive lifestyle. A rising number of people relying on vehicles such as cars or motorbikes diminishes opportunities for daily exercise. Besides, they are able to reduce physical demands by using machines. For instance, individuals prefer to have a hoover to help them with household chores owing to its ability to save time and its expedience. Consequently, the less calories are burnt, the more weight is gained. In addition, dietary habits also play a vital role in obesity, which is characterized by increased consumption of processed foods high in fat, sugar and salt, along with a decline in the intake of fresh fruits and vegetables.
The effects of this obesity epidemic are extensive and multifaceted. Firstly, obesity is associated with a risk of chronic diseases including diabetes or cancer. Research has shown that the person’s metabolism worsens as body fat percentage grows, which in turn may result in heart issues. This places an additional burden on healthcare systems, leading to high costs and a reduction in overall societal well-being. Secondly, overweight people are likely to suffer from body shaming problems, an element to stress and inferiority complex. As a result, individuals would undergo mental problems that may bring about suicide.
In conclusion, obesity is a big matter that affects negatively on everyone. It is mainly caused by an inactive lifestyle and eating disorders, in which both physical and mental health are influenced.
