It is argued that while using the internet, security and safety of personal information cannot be ensured, so the benefits of the internet do not compensate the potential issues. This essay fully disagrees with this statement. I believe that the benefits of the internet like virtual collaboration or realtime communication outweigh the potential safety issues. Furthermore, as new technology is evolving, risks in security will incline in the future.
The internet provides companies and individuals with the tools and platforms to virtually collaborate on projects and inventions. Before the internet was invented, people had to meet in person, to discuss and elaborate on new ideas or projects. Often, these face to face meetings came along with the need to travel, which is known to be time- and cost intensive. For example, during the COVID pandemic, scientists from different countries around the world, could virtually collaborate on the COVID vaccince, without the need to meet in person.
Nowadays, technology is brining up new inventions like the so called „Blockchain”, which can be used, to ensure, for instance, the secure use of personal information. By using this new technology, the risk that one owns internet identity is stolen, is significantly minimized. For instance, the hacker attack on the Playstation Network, a social gaming platform, which happened in 2013, would not have been successful, if the Blockchain technology would have been used.
In conclusion, firstly, the known security risks of the internet can be minimized in the future, when new technology is used and secondly the major benefits of using the internet clearly outweigh any potential security risks.
