With the advancement of society, the way people access reading materials online has evolved. A vast number of individuals are of the opinion that traditional paper news is becoming obsolete and that electronic articles offer practical advantages as a viable alternative. This essay will examine the advantages and disadvantages of this shift.
On the negative side, there are several adverse effects of using digital news. Firstly, prolonged exposure to light-emitting diode screens can have direct implications on physical well-being, particularly on eye health. While electronic devices have become indispensable for various purposes, excessive screen time can lead to issues such as eye strain and myopia. According to reports by eye hospitals, after the Covid-19 pandemic, many students in VietNam experienced an increased prevalence of refractive errors due to prolonged use of e-books for academic reading. Secondly, a potential negative impact of this trend is the financial strain on companies that specialize in traditional news. If consumers increasingly favor electronic books, the dwindling demand for traditional books could significantly decline the revenues of paper book businesses.
In spite of the drawbacks mentioned above, my stand is that the advantages of e-books, such as convenience and cost savings, deserve greater consideration. Opting for electronic materials can be a cost-effective measure as it eliminates additional expenses associated with purchasing physical magazines, such as shipping and packaging costs. To illustrate, as a university student with a limited budget, I personally experienced the financial burden of purchasing physical books during my freshman year; however, transitioning to digital books led to a significant reduction in my expenditure on course materials. Additionally, the convenience of accessing and reading documents online is a practical benefit of e-books. Instead of waiting days for the delivery of physical news, accessing online materials is as simple as a few clicks.
In conclusion, while there are disadvantages to transitioning to electronic news, such as adverse impacts on eye health and reduced revenues for traditional book companies, the clear advantages of e-materials, such as convenience and cost-effectiveness, outweigh the drawbacks. It is likely that electronic articles will become increasingly common in the near future due to these benefits.
