People are concerned about losing their jobs if our societies continue to move towards a highly intelligent future.
Automation includes various aspects like smartphones, computers, and social media, which have made our lives much easier. These tools have become essential in our everyday lives. For example, we never thought that a small screen in our hands could allow us to shop, watch movies, order takeout, pay taxes, and more, when just twenty years ago we primarily used them to make calls. Some suggest that the government should consider a universal basic income for all citizens, and I personally agree with this point. Let me explain my thoughts.
Overall, innovation means that automation can replace lower-skilled jobs, allowing people to pursue their dreams more freely. This shift could improve overall innovation among people and accelerate the development of our country. Many individuals today have higher educational backgrounds compared to those from 30 or 40 years ago. Some jobs are increasingly difficult to fill, as people tend to seek high-income and technical roles in their careers. However, jobs are jobs; even if a job is boring or just pays enough to cover bills, it is still necessary for some people to take it.
I partly agree with retaining programs, as they can help people find jobs more easily, especially if they come from low-education or low-skill backgrounds. As I mentioned earlier, lower-skilled jobs are likely to be replaced or on the verge of being replaced by machines and computers in the near future. The available job opportunities in this category are diminishing.
To sum up, global standards will continue to rise, and there is no doubt that providing people with a basic income is a smart way to move forward.
