The debate surrounding men and women sharing household chores, specifically when both the man and woman are working full time jobs is a contentious one. While some argue that women should bear the responsibility of theses chores, I largely concur with the perspective that both genders should attend to these tasks in order to promote gender equality and reduce conflict.
One major reason as to why men and women ought to split chores equally is to reduce gender inequality. As a result, gender equality allows them to remove the barrier holding them back from workplace, personal development and interpersonal relationships. For example, a married couple with independent incomes that decide on sharing household chores enables them both to engage in activities with friends or even relax in their spare time.
Moreover, conflict between men and women is often due to the daunting fact that one of them, usually the woman, needs to take care of all the household chores. As a result, the affected
party feels discriminated, increasing relationship dissatisfaction. For instance, a man could force a woman to carry out all the necessary household duties even though they both work a 9 to 5 job and are equally affected by their work circumstances.
In conclusion, I assert that both genders need to equally share home tasks to eliminate inequality and problems. While some might disagree, it is ones right to pursue lives out of household responsibilities. Therefore, it is imperative that we look to these reasons in order to spread fairness and overall gender equality.
