In today’s world, there is a common sense that peers are impacting their mates incredibly and this phenomenon is known as peer group pressure . Even though many indviduals consider that it has certain advantages , I personally believe that the disadvantages are more seriouc and outweigh the benefits.
On the one hand, peer pressure motivate students to study harder or to be in good behaviuor with people around them. For example , if a teenager’s friends are ambitious and hard-working , this teenager may feel encouraged to achieve better academic results. Similarly, young people may follow positive lifestyles such as playing sports or avoiding harmful activities as their friends are doing . These examples show that peer influence is not always negative.
On the other hand, the disadvantages are far more dangerous. Firstly, many young people usually have to follow unhealthy trends just for gaining acceptance in their group. For instance, some start smoking, drinking alcohol, or even trying some drugs because they do not want to be excluded in their groups. Secondly, peer group pressure often reduces independence. Teenagers may lose confidence in their own decisions and begin to imitate other’s lifestyle. Finally, peer pressure can lead to serious mental health problems such as stress, anxiety, and low self-esteem, which can negatively affect their future.
In conclusion, while peer group pressure sometimes can have a few positive impacts, its disadvantages are stronger and more harmful. Young people should learn to make independent decisions and distinguish positiv and negative influences. Parents and teachers also have an important role in teenagers so that they do not suffer from the negative effects of peer pressure.
