Many people argue that it would be better if schools only taught subjects that are useful in the students’ future careers. However, I strongly disagree with them because other subjects, such as music and sports, help build the comprehensive identity of youngsters, also some learners are going to pursue employment in such fields.
First, schools are where most people’s characters are formed, and since the person’s personality is not solely defined by their profession but also by their beliefs, interests, and emotions, teaching institutes have to take an inclusive approach in teaching which is concerned with the students’ culture as a whole, and that is by including other subjects such as music, art, and sports. For instance, Aristotle was not only a very bright philosopher, but also a creative artist and poet.
Second, a number of students will choose to continue their live as artists, painters, professional players, singers, and musicians. Although some will argue that these students are already talented, but talent will be lost if it is not fostered, and school classes focusing on such subjects are great for discovering and fostering talents. Muhammad Salah is a prominent example of a young man who chose to pursue a job in sports and is extremely successful.
To sum up, I believe schools should teach all kinds of subjects to students, not only because some will go on to choose jobs in said subjects, but also because they build the comprehensive personality and culture of the learner, and such is the original responsibility of schools.
