These days private institutions mostly fund medical research work. It is undeniable that scientific research is important for the growth and development of a country. Therefore, I agree that the government should have an upper hand in sponsoring scientific projects.
The government have the responsibility of providing a convenient and more developed life for its citizens, and this can be achieved only through medical researches. Scientific investigations in medicine comes up with new ways of treating and curbing some illnesses and diseases, so it is the duty of the government to fund this research works in order to improve the health of the general public. Furthermore the authorities of the state have enough resources to sponsor clinical research because they can be financially demanding at times. The government, having the health of people in mind instead of profit can fund large-scale research work. For example, the United States of America funded the investigation and research works carried out during the covid-19 pandemic. Ut sponsored this research work with billions of dollars in order to ensure that scientists come up with treatments for this virus.
In contrast, private institutions are more profit-driven. They do not care about the effect of the medical experimentation on the health of people because they are more profit-oriented. In addition, individuals at most times do not have sufficient resources to fund research projects and this can be disappointing to medical field as well as the scientist.
In conclusion, government should play the greater role of financing medical investigations because it is their responsibility and also, they have enough means of sponsoring than private institutions.
