People are living in a ‘throwaway society,’ using things for a short time and then throwing them away. What are the causes of this? What problems does it lead to?
Nowadays, people are stopping to appreciate things that they have. They can use some material belongings only once and forget about it. That is why they are living in a “throwaway society”, which uses things for a short time and then throws them away. This essay will show some causes of this issue, and possible consequences of this problem with relevant examples.
One major contributor to this global issue is the fast speed of technological progress. Technologies are developing too fast without providing time to appreciate them. As an example, the Apple company is presenting a new Iphone every year, with more functions in comparison with the previous one. That is why many individuals update their new smartphones for the newest version. This problem could lead to economic crisis, inflation and depreciation of money. Thus, it is important to appreciate and respect the new technology, and not replace it after one year.
Another key cause of this challenge is people’s desire to be better than others. Individuals buy new items to seem rich and higher in society. For instance, people in my school always want to boast about their new smartphone or headphones; but on the next day, another student comes with a newer device. One of the consequences of this issue is people will be dependent on someone’s opinion. Therefore, it is necessary for people to stop comparing each other.
To sum up, people are throwing away their belongings due to several causes, such as high speed of innovative progress and desire to have a proper rate in society. In addition, these reasons could have irreversible consequences to the population: economical problems and possible weakening of self-confidence of individuals.
