Smoking is banned in public spaces in numerous countries by governments since it imposes a major health threat on citizens’ lives; therefore, I am a staunch believer that people shouldn’t be allowed to fume in gathering spots if smoking areas are not available. This essay will explain the impact of tobacco use on health and will highlight how smoking adversely affects the economy.
To embark on, it is indisputable that smoking has detrimental effects on humans’ health, and it is one of the primary causes of cancer, lung diseases, and premature death. As a result, permitting this negative behaviour in shared locations may expose non-smokers’ lives to danger particularly children, pregnant women and older people. To illustrate, not only are active smokers affected by chemicals in tobacco, but also non-smokers, who breathe in their smoke, may develop the same illnesses over time. To give a clear example, some scientific findings have recently unveiled the fact that offspring who are diagnosed with respiratory diseases have been exposed to secondhand smoke; consequently, it is recommended that cigarette smoking be prohibited to protect youngsters’ heath and discourage them to adopt this unhealthy habit when they grow up.
In addition, Smoking has been regarded as one of the reasons of environment pollution. In other words, the huge amount of chemicals released from cigarettes into the air contributes to air contamination; moreover, cigarette filters, which are composed of plastic, take decades to decompose, leading to serious complications to the wild and marine life. For instance, when smokers finish their cigarettes, they throw the buds on the ground that latter are carried with water rain from streets to drains and then to rivers, seas and ultimately to oceans, affecting the aquatic creatures by their toxic compounds.
In conclusion, smoking should be restricted in public owing to its serious health and environmental issues; hence, it is recommended that governments inform their populations about the serious consequences unless they quit such a harmful habit.
