In modern society, raising individuals’ awareness is more important than ever, so the government should spend money on building free libraries in every town. While others think that they are unnecessary because information is already available online. I strongly believe that both ideas are reasonable.
On the one hand, everyone owns smart devices such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops, which provides convenient access to information. For example, students can easily search for study problems on websites like Google or online learning platforms instead of borrowing books from the library. Besides, maintaining a library requires high costs for buildings, staff, and new books, which could be used for other social activities such as healthcare and infrastructure. For instance, the government could spend money on building more hospitals and improving roads, which brought a large amount of benefits for citizens.
On the other hand, public libraries still play an important role in modern communities. Firstly, not everyone can access the Internet to look for information, especially with low-income families. Libraries give everyone a chance to gain knowledge. For example, many students in remote areas of Viet Nam cannot afford to purchase smartphones, or laptops, so they can go to the library to do research and study. Moreover, libraries are not only places for reading and studying but also space where people can share ideas together. For instance, many library clubs in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh city have organized group discussions that help more and more young people learn more about these activities. As a result, everyone will have equal opportunities to learn, exchange ideas.
In conclusion, I completely believe that both public libraries and online resources are necessary in today’s world. The Internet provides quick and convenient. While libraries create learning opportunities for everyone, especially with people who live in remote areas.
