Overall, French was the most widely chosen language in both years, although it’s popularity in 2014 decreased significantly. In contrast, Spanish and Italian became more popular over the period, while German and Russian experienced slight decreases.
In 2009, French was the most popular language, as almost half of the students(43%) selecting it, which dropped to 34% in 2014. Spanish was chosen by 16% of the students, but it rose noticeably to almost a quarter in 2014 at 24%. Furthermore, Italian language showed similar upward trend, increasing from 20% to 24%
On the other hand, both German and Russian saw slightly declines in 2014 compared to 2009. German plummeted from 12% to 10% and Russian decreased from 9% to 8 percent.
