It is argued that nowadays a person is valued by social status and material possessions; other values such as honor, kindness, and trust are no longer essential. It is quite ironic; this essay will show you my disagreement and give my opinion on how those values still have a role in our lives.
First, social status and material possessions only affect a specific group of society in our environment. For example, you are judged by the bags, shoes, or clothes that you buy: Is it a famous bag? Is it expensive? When you wear Prada or Louis Vuitton or other branded items, some people would recognize you as a high-life woman, and when you wear unbranded items, they will classify you as a hardworking middle-class woman.
Secondly, other than material possessions, social status also defines where you come from and how rich your family is. For example, if you are the daughter or son of the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, some people will salute you even when you are not doing anything right before.
Nowadays, people are more critical and logical; honor, kindness, and trust still are the evidence that we, as humans, must socialize with each other. For example, when you bring food for your peers in the office, they must be feeling thankful and think that you are a nice person. Other than that, when you pursue your dreams of higher career or academic studies by working very hard, people will congratulate you and value you as a cool person even though you do not have a Prada bag. Happiness and kindness are contagious.
In conclusion, life is not about competition; there is no end game if we speak of kindness; it will last forever in our lives.
