The pie graphs provide information about the most favoured sports in secondary schools in France in three different decades.
Overall, swimming was the most popular type of sport in all years. The popularity of tennis doubled, while the number of football lovers experienced a wild fluctuation.
To begin, in 1990, the preference for swimming among secondary students accounted for 39%, and then it grew by nearly one in ten in 2000, before declining to 41% in 2010. As regards football, its value, initially in 1990, made up 6%, and the proportion increased to 18% by 2000. In 2010, the percentage decreased to 8%.
Turning to basketball, its appeal constituted 16% at the beginning, and then it fell by approximately half in 2000, after which it made up 25% after a noticeable growth in 2010. Regarding tennis, its share stood at 4% between 1990 and 2000, after increasing almost twofold to reach 7% in 2010. In addition, other physical activities constituted 25% in 1990, and then the value started to decline gradually to 19% by 2010.
