There is a debatable topic regarding whether major multinational sports events are held to promote unity or merely to gain profit. While some believe that such kind of globally-participated events are designed to favor politicians and businesses, I hold a view that they are a great asset for creating an image of international understanding.
To begin with, every year international sports events welcome an ample of people around the world to spectate the games. In order to attend the event, each individual pays the price of a ticket, even somethimes transportation and accommodation costs. Therefore, those events enable the host nations or the locals to amass funding. This process creates an illusion for people to belive that those events are used as vassels to increase domestic budget. To cite an example, as previously observed before, the hosting city’s businesses of this event experience a boom in their sales for the products or services that they offer. Nevertheless, from my perspective, international unity is a far more essential factor to consider than budgetary gains of a country.
On the other hand, internationally-held sports contests ties millions of individuals to the games, or to the screens. Those people consist of various nationalities, races or genders. Yet they all are able to share the same interest and emotions throughout these games. Since people of diverse groups start to interact each other during those games, they come to a realization that the differences do not matter. As long as people desire the same enthusiasm or outcomes, diversity goes unnoticed. This comprehention leads to a global understanding bridge between cultures. For instance, it was reported that the 5th most popular way to make acquintances was during sports events where both of you support the same team. This is the main reason why I opine that the Olympics or the World Cup typed events are necessary for the world’s citizens to accomplish empathy and collaboration with one another.
To draw a conclusion, in spite of the fact that globally attended events are generally considered as a tool to get political or monetary benefits, I do believe that those games teach people how similar they are, despite all the diversity.
