As we approach a world of technological advancement, it is widely assumed that paying well to high-status managers is much better than other workers in a company. While I acknowledge that responsibility and the years of experience are crucial factors of seniors to have much higher income, I firmly believe that this tip results in demotivation of ordinary people.
Admittedly, the importance of senior workers to have greater incomes can be explained in some respects. Firstly, if a company wants to do any changes, pivotal decisions are usually made by chairmen. This is simply because ordinary workers cannot correct their mistakes when they make decisions by themselves without noting their bosses. The faults often reflect with financial problem, such as bankruptcy. As a result, ordinary workers cannot cover the costs of the company’s crisis, leading to an increase in chances of unemployment. Therefore, only executives are able to undertake this responsibility who should be given a much more salary due to their high-risk. Secondly, albeit no less significantly, experience is one of the major reasons of greater wage. Managers are usually older than ordinary individuals, who have faced different challenges. This means that they know how to overcome any kinds of issues in urgent situations. Consequently, these managers are always provided with greater income. For example, in most well-known companies, senior managers are responsible for investment decisions, as their experience are worthy in these factors, which ordinary people may not have.
I, however, remain convinced that isolating ordinary people negatively influences on them. The most compelling reason behind this is the loss of motivation. If workers notice that ordinary workers are paid lower than managers, they feel undervalued. As a consequence of this, individuals start to do their duties more poorly and unproductively, which might reduce the efficiency of the company itself. Another potent reason is that it results in a gap between rich and poor. This is due to the fact that when senior managers are paid well, people usually think that their efforts to make the company the best are ignored. This, in turn, creates dissatisfaction among individuals, as in most cases, people who do most practical work are underpaid. For instance, at restaurants the majority of work are done by ordinary people who was the dishes and prepare the tables for costumers.
In conclusion, although well-payment should be given to senior managers in any companies since they can undertake the responsibility due to the difficulties they faced before, and thus know how to manage, I am of the opinion that it has a negative impact on ordinary people in terms of their motivation and satisfaction.
