Nowadays, there is an ability to shop, work and communicate with people via the internet and live without face-to-face contact with others. This essay argues that this tendency is negative due to some reasons.
First and foremost, living without any interaction with others can negatively affect people’s psychological well-being. This is because, constant contact with humans instills a sense of belonging to a group, through non-verbal signals from opponents. Thus, it reduces cortisol levels, which otherwise make people feel anxious and stressed. Consequently, neglecting real contact in almost all life aspects, such as work or usual conversation with people, can pose a risk of various mental disorders: depression or social phobia. For instance, when buying clothes in the shopping mall, people even if they don’t want to speak with salesperson or consultant, gets a minimum amount of social contact, which decreases anxiety levels.
Moreover, replacing socialization by internet tools leads to not only physiological health problems, but physical ones as well. Most of statistics show that there is a clear link between a sedentary lifestyle and chronic health issues. That is to say, the permanent replacement of usual activities, such as going to a work or shopping in the mall, can instantly effect on overall wellbeing, because it leads to muscle atrophy. For example, the individual who stops working in the office and moves to work online as IT worker, burns in 30% less calories that those who work in the office, due to the amounts of walk they do.
In conclusion, the development of minimizing a social connection with others posing a significant risk of both psychological and physical illnesses.
