In today’s society, social media platforms are the main source of news for many individuals. This is due to the rise of internet in morden society. Overally it is beneficial for many individuals as it is a fast and accessible way to keep people informed about day to day news.
The use of social media in accessing news for many individuals is beneficial because news reaches people faster , for example people in an earthquake region can be alerted faster with social media news and be able to follow the proper protocols. Before the rise of of internet ,people used to get their news from newspapers or by word of mouth which often lead to miscommunication and would be problematic for illiterate people. Social media news is also beneficial because viewers can see footage of the news being reported , for example a missing person poster can be broadcasted on every social platform.
However social media news has its own disadvantages amidst the vast benefits.For example,some people use social media to spread lies and promote their political propaganda and this leads to unnecessary uprising. Social media can also be dangerous because it is a very addictive platform,and if not used responsibly it can cause long term illnesses.
In my own option social media is beneficial for news consumption and it can be a stepping stone for tomorrow’s generations. I conclude by saying social media is very helpful to members of the society.
