The number of criminal activities in many metropolitan areas has been increasing at an alarming rate, which was the direct result of the ever expanding gap between the rich and the poor. However, the authotities can tackle this problem by establishing stricter regulations.
To begin with, a growing crime rate in urban regions can be blamed on the distict living condition between wealthy people and the less fortunate individuals. Obviously, living in big citites can be extemely costly, especially for people with low income since they often strunggle with earning to meet their ends. Meanwhile, individuals who belongs to middle and upper classes can enjoy a much more comfortable and convenient lifestyle that an urban setting can bring to them. This contrasting experience push many poor people to try harder in order to survive in the big cities, which in many cases lead to criminal activities.
On the other hand, the governments can tighten criminal law to combat and reduce the number of crime occuring in urban areas. Stricter regulations would mean hasher punishments for any illegal actions, serving as warning for anyone who think about committing crime. In addition, these laws will also help the authorities to filter out misbehave individuals and lock them away to keep their communities safe. To illustrate, a report from the Vietnamese Department of Justice has shown that the number of minor crimes in Ha Noi has dropped significantly after the government introduced a stricter punishment on these kind of criminal activities since 2015.
In conclusion, the disparity between the rich and the poor living in big cities is the main factor that has driven up crime rate. However, more punishing regulations can be a sensible solution for this issue.
