In recent years, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of children spending a considerable amount of time playing computer games and very little time on sports. This trend raises important questions regarding its underlying causes and I believe it brings negative consequences to youngsters. In this essay, I will discuss some reasons, such as the attractiveness and convenience of computer games or the tiring and time-consuming of playing sports. In my opinion, this shift has a negative effect on cognitive abilities and may increase health risk in individuals, especially younger people.
Addressing the initial question, one of the main reasons is the attractiveness of computer games nowadays. In this contemporary era, technology has significantly developed, modern games offer interaction between players, virtual rewards and immersive experiences that are difficult for traditional games to compete with. Consistently, children play computer games invariably as a necessity and the most convenient form of entertainment. Another reason is that playing sports requires many preparations before leaving home, which awakens laziness and fatigue inside them. Additionally, teenagers sometimes use traffic anxiety or injury risks as excuses to refuse playing outdoors. As a result, children tend to stay indoors instead of going outside and playing sports.
From my perspective, this trend is a negative development for children’s overall growth and well-being. The major implication is that excessive time spent on computer games reduces physical activities, increasing health risks such as addiction, short-sightedness, immersion in the virtual world and even depression. In many households, children staying indoors all the time to play computer games can lead to familial communication declining, also make parents and their child feel disconnected or create barriers between each other because of generation gap. Moreover, youngsters may miss important opportunities to develop social skills when they do not play outdoors, as sports help children to improve communication, discipline and teamwork. Although playing computer games help teenagers feel elated and relaxing after a stressful day, sedentary habits can be harmful in the long run.
In conclusion, children’s preference for computer games over sports is mainly driven by the appeal of digital entertainment and the laziness inside them. However, I believe this shift is negative, as it has harmful influences on teenagers’ physical health and social communication abilities.
