Nowadays, no one can deny the important role of the mass media. Therefore, there is a common belief that the Internet has a greater impact on people’s lives than politicians. I concur with this perspective with this opinion that the influences on individuals of the Internet outweigh politicians.
On the one hand, as we know, the Internet would help to distribute information more efficiently. Before the invention of mass media, politicians’ opinions were influenced by a handful of sources. Such sources were usually newspapers and news channels. Though, this development helps politicians more convenient to update news. However, social media also leads to an overflow of information. A lot of websites are not legit and unprofessional. The result is that consumers are harder to know the difference between fake news and legit news.
Additionally, the Internet made it more common for everybody to write what they want. In other words, people can post anything on the Internet and if someone chooses to believe this opinion, they might spread your word. For example, on Facebook, users can answer political questions and it only matters how many views they have instead of exactly what the argument is. Therefore, it is impossible to identify lies without reading real news about other people’s lives which most people never do anymore. Moreover, the only way to be sufficiently informed about politicians is for people to choose the right website from numerous sources. It is hard to identify what is true and what is false.
In conclusion, social media did not improve in informing us about politics as anyone can write anything about life and other people become lazy to check out real information.
