In some cultural environments, children receive the message that they can accomplish anything they want provided that they try hard enough. This essay will provide both advantages and disadvantages of this case. While the main advantages are overcoming hardships they face and instilling a sense of confidence, the salient disadvantages are making children overconfident and putting too much pressure on them.
One advantage that is suggested in this essay is overcoming the difficult situations. These hard circumstances may often reqiure parents or relatives to encourage the children to go and get whay they want. The other advantage is instilling a sense of confidence. When children get the message that their parents support them, they become more confident. For example, one study which was conducted in Signapore back in 2022 with a cohort of parents showed that when parents place a faith in their children, this in turn increases the confidence of their children by percent. Hence, their ability to achieve anything increases.
On the other hand, one disadvantage is children WHO are overconfident. In situations where parents overemphasize the importance of trying hard, children tend to be overly confident. The other disadvantage is placing too much pressure on children. Some children are not built to be encouraged overly and this in return does not yield the best result. For instance, children, WHO reported to be anxious when they get too much expectation, are underperforming when they are faced with a difficult problem.
To conclude, there are two main advantages namely, overcoming hardships and giving a sense of confidence. However, it is not without the disadvantages which are overconfident children and putting too much pressure.
