Positive And Negative

Band 7+: Shopping is becoming more and more popular as a leisure activity. However, some people feel that this has both positive and negative effects. Why is shopping so popular? What effects does its increase in popularity have on individuals and on society?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Shopping is very popular among the majority of the population, regardless of their age or social standards. This is because most people view shopping as an experience that makes a difference in their day-to-day lives. Some find themselves in a different world, surrounded by various material things they may or may not be able to purchase. Even if they are unable to afford these items, they derive much pleasure from looking at and imagining owning them someday. Some people go shopping when they truly want to make purchases and prefer to compare prices before buying. I believe most people enjoy shopping because it allows them to meet friends, make contacts, and stay updated on the latest trends. It provides them with a pleasant distraction from their routine and sometimes monotonous lives.

The most significant effect shopping has on an individual is that it nurtures self-esteem. An individual may find social interaction most gratifying, leading them to become more extroverted. Making a purchase, along with the knowledge that one can afford it, boosts people’s self-confidence.

The increasing popularity of shopping has numerous effects on society. It may encourage people to start new businesses, thereby improving the economy. This growth will create more job opportunities, and manufacturers will strive to enhance their products to offer consumers a wide range of choices at competitive prices. This will lead to an overall improvement in product quality and the services provided by sales staff.

The rise in popularity of shopping will also create more job opportunities in advertising as manufacturers seek to promote their products. Consumers will gain a better understanding of products, reducing the chances of being misled by inferior ones.

I find shopping to be an interesting and pleasurable experience. Each passing year enriches my heart and mind through this activity.

In contemporary society, it is frequently argued that COVID-19 changed the way people live and interact.
