These days, fast food commercials can be easily discovered on TV and can pop up while scrolling in any social media platforms. This has lead to people becoming more intrigued by the ads which make them motivated to eat unhealthy food. Although some groups of people consider banning the ads may solve the habit of unhealthy eating, I highly doubt this opinion. In my opinion, removing the commercials from existence is very ineffective and insignificant since eating habit depends on one’s situation and affordability.
Firstly, advertisements aren’t the primary source of the problem because, a person opt to eat fast foods based on the situation. For example: If people want to celebrate their birthday, they will throw a party and eat junk foods anyway or people who go to foreign trips will have no other option than to try different cuisines. Subsequently, if a person is in a bad mental situation, he/she might eat unhealthy meals to comfort themselves. Moreover, economic condition have a huge role to determine what a person eats. If someone has a limited budget, they are more likely to eat junk foods than people with a strong finance. An economically weak individual has limited choice and they have to sacrifice their demands in order to fulfill the mandatory requirements. Therefore, consuming healthy meals might be difficult since healthier food can be more expensive than junk foods and they are practical choice, regardless of advertising.
In conclusion, terminating the advertisements of fast foods will not bring a considerable amount of changes as the nourishment of people relies more on other main factors like affordability and one’s current environment. Instead of banning ads, promoting healthy eating through education and awareness campaigns would be a more effective long-term solution.
