The pie charts demonstrate the proportion of male and female Australian citizens who used social media throughout the period from 2011 to 2014.
Overall, the percentage of both men and women who used social networks daily experienced an upward trend, while tendency of using once or few times a week decreased. More women in 2014 never used social media compared to 2011; contrastingly, the figure of men in this category decreased by the end of the period.
If in 2011 25% of males used social media every day, the proportion almost doubled by 2014. The percentage of men who used social networks once a week (12%) or few times a week (19%) in 2011, slightly decreased by the end of the period. Consequently, only 9% used it once, and 16% few times a week. At the start, men who never used social media had nearly half of the overall share; however, become the second in 2014, resulting with 30%.
Regarding women who never used social media, the figure increased by 2014, demonstrating 22%, while in 2011 it was only 8%. The proportion of those who used it once a week dramatically decreased, falling from 39% to 10%. Similarly, those who used social networks few times a week experienced 13% drop. The proportion of females who used it daily had more than a half of the overall share (59%) in 2014.
