The diagram depicts the time consumed by different activities in a US office in two years. The units are measured in percentages. Overall, the maximum time was spent on the phone in 1980 and, similarly, on the computer in 2000.
In 1980, almost one-third (30%) of time was spent talking on the phone, followed by 20% on paper documents. Furthermore, the time consumed on meetings, other activities, and face-to-face communication was 19%, 15%, and 14%, respectively.
In 2000, there was a significant increase in the percentage of computer activity from 2% to 30%. Similarly, the time spent on paper documents declined by almost half (10%). The statistics for face-to-face and other activities remained constant (14% and 15%), respectively, in both years. In addition to the old activities, a new activity of email was also introduced in 2000, in which 8% of the time was spent. There was a sharp decline in the number of meetings from 19% to 9% in the year 2000.
