The tables provide an information how potatoes are produced and consumed in five regions in 2006. Overall, it is clear that Europe dominates in the usage of potatoes, whereas Asia takes prevalence in the production of this vegetable.
To commence with, the highest proportions in the consumption of potatoes account for Europe and North America, with 96.1 and 57.1 kgs per person, respectively. The third place is taken by Asia, making up approximately one-quarter, while South & Central America represent figure just below this amount (23.8 kg per person). Notably, potatoes are the least popular commodity in Africa, as the share in this region stands for nearly one-seventh.
Turning to the second table, the data on where the potatoes are grown and cultivated the most is revealed. In general, the majority of potatoes are produced in Asia and Europe, standing for 131.2 and 126.3 million tonnes, respectively. In contrast, other areas left are responsible for less than one-fifth of these production contributions. While, North America accounts for 247. million tonnes of potato, Africa (16.4 million tonnes) and South & Central America (15.6 million tonnes) produce potatoes in the smallest amounts.
