Overall, the number of minutes spent on Twitter experienced a gradual increase throughout the period and reached its peak in 2020. Meanwhile, Snapchat also saw a significant rise, except for a sharp decline in 2020. In contrast, the time spent on Facebook showed a downward trend over the period.
The amount of time spent on Facebook experienced a modest dip from 25 minutes to 8 minutes over three years. By contrast, Twitter showed a gradual growth of approximately 8 minutes, while Snapchat grew dramatically from 12 minutes to 37 minutes. Furthermore, the amount of time spent on Instagram rose from 12 minutes in 2016 to a peak of 43 minutes in 2017 before dropping to 30 minutes in 2018.
In the following years, Facebook usage continued to fall, dropping by around 5 minutes. In contrast, the amount of time spent on Twitter also continued to increase from 30 minutes in 2018 to 43 minutes in 2020, while Snapchat also saw a dramatic growth of 7 minutes before decreasing to about 15 minutes in 2020. Meanwhile, Instagram usage declined to 15 minutes in 2019 but rebounded sharply to 36 minutes in 2020.
