Overall, the percentage of online shoppers increased across all age groups during this period. In 2014, the highest percentage was observed in the 26-35 age group, whereas in 2018, it shifted to the 36-45 age group.
In 2014, one in five Canadians aged 15-25 made purchases online. The age group of 26-35 had the highest percentage of online shopping at over 31%. Subsequently, the percentages gradually decreased for the age groups of 35-45, 45-55, 55-65, and 65+, reaching approximately 26%, 22%, 11%, and 5%, respectively.
By 2018, the number of active online shoppers increased by around 3% for the first two age groups. There was a more notable increase for the 35-45 age group, with a rise from 27% to 38%. Additionally, those aged 45 and above experienced a 5% increase compared to the 2014 statistics.
