The bar chart illustrates the number of British citizens emigrating to five selected locations between 2004 and 2007. Overall, Australia was the most popular destination throughout the period whereas the other three destinations experienced a decline over the four year period.
The bar chart data clearly shows that in 2004, Australia was the most liked destination, with approximately 42,000 British emigrants. While Spain was the second most favoured destination, with around 35,000 emigrants.
In addition to this, the USA and France received relatively similar numbers, with around 25,000 and 22,000 emigrants respectively. New Zealand had the lowest number of emigrants, at approximately 20,000.
Over the four-year period, the number of emigrants to Australia fluctuated, with a peak of around 52,000 in 2006, and then gradually decreasing in 2007 to approximately 45,000. In contrast, Spain remained relatively stable over the years. New Zealand and USA experienced a decline in numbers between 2004 and 2009. While France saw a significant decline, with emigrant numbers decreasing from 22,000 in 2004 to around 18,000 in 2007.
