The bar charts compare the proportion of total expenditure in various consumer goods by citizens of European countries between 1998 and 2008.
Overall, it is noticeable that spending on electronic goods and clothing increased, the reverse was true for magazines, holidays and going to the cinema. Additionally, money for eating out showed unchanged.
Focusing on the increases, the most substantial portion of spending was allocated to electronic goods 16% in 1998 and this was followed by a slight rise to 20% in 2008. Similarly, expenditure on clothing also saw marked growth, increasing from 12% to 18%. Notably, expenditure on eating out experienced a period of stability (6%).
In contrast, money went on remaining items bucked the trend. A negligible decline was observed in the amount of money which went on magazines and cinema, falling from 3% to 1% both. The proportion of total spending on holiday started at just 8% in 1998 ,a figure that then decreased to 5% at the end of the period.
