There are given 2 maps, illustrating the layout of main changes of a Central Library between 20 years ago and today.
In general, it can be clearly seen that the library has become more modernized and comfortable with far more sofas, self-serving machines, café and more expanded rooms.
20 years ago, most of the Central Library was for reading activities, for instance the Reading Room, located to the left of the entrance, was devoted to reading newspapers, books and magazines. Right after the entrance, in the lobby were placed some tables with chairs for readers, and from both sides of these tables were positioned Adult fiction and non-fiction books. On the right corner of the library was located Enquiry desk intended for tickets, book returns and so on. On the opposite side was set room with Children’s books. It is also noteworthy that library was not completely reading place because on the opposite side of the Reading room was positioned special room for entertainment with various CDs, videos and computer games.
However, today, the library has been redeveloped. The enquiry desk was replaced with Café, while Reading room with Computer room. The tables in the center of the hall were removed in order to leave more space for people. The room for children’s books was replaced and transformed into Lecture room. Now, between Café and the lecture room have been designated information desk, with self-service machines and adult fiction books around. It is also obvious, that room for CDs and computer games has been expanded and converted into place for storytelling events with sofas and Children’s fiction books. Additionally, the space between computer room and storytelling room was constructed into All reference books
