The dry method of coffee production involves several important steps. First, the coffee beans are sorted by hand to remove any bad or damaged ones. Then, the beans are cleaned using a sieve to remove dirt and impurities. After cleaning, they are spread out and dried in the sun for about four weeks. During this time, the beans are regularly raked and turned to ensure even drying.
Once dried, the beans are stored in silos to protect them until they are ready for further processing . They are then sent to the mill for the next stages. At the mill, the beans go through hulling, where the outer layer is removed. After that, they are graded based on size and quality, and then bagged for transport or sale.
Finally, the coffee is either sold directly, roasted to bring out the flavor, or packed and sold as finished coffee products.
This traditional method is simple but time-consuming and requires careful handling to produce high-quality coffee beans.
