The line charts compare the figure population between male and female who were sentenced in a particular country from 1911 to 2001.

Overall, the number of male criminal was significant higher than that of female during the period. While the population of female prisoners showed the decrease trend, the figure of male prisoners increased substantially in the end of the interval.

Regarding the chart of male prison population, from 1911 to 1971, the population in the start and the end point changed slightly, with approximately 20.000 in numbe. The deepest point of this period was in 1931, hitting a low of 10.000. Subsequently, there was a considerable increase in the number of male criminal, peaking at nearly 45.000 in 2001.

Conversely, female prisoners population witnessed a downward trend compared to the male, about 500 at the deepest point in 1941. On the remaining interval, the figure of female criminal varied continuously and ranged from approximately 1000 to nearly 1500, reaching at above 1500 in total in 2001.
