The maps illustrate the transformation of the town of Liverton from 1980 to the present day.
Overall, Liverton has undergone a complete overhaul, shifting from an industrial dockyard to a residential and recreational area. While the basic layout of the river remains, almost all industrial facilities have been replaced by modern infrastructure.
On the northern bank, the cranes and warehouses have been removed. The warehouses were either replaced or repurposed into an education centre and a kids’ playground, while a new sailing club was constructed. Regarding the river itself, the cargo ships seen in 1980 have disappeared, replaced by a stationary Ship Museum. Furthermore, a bridge and a flood barrier have been installed to the east.
On the southern bank, the changes are equally conspicuous. The previous warehouse and crane have been cleared to make way for a hotel, an apartment complex, and a parking lot. Finally, a river walk has been built along the water’s edge, signifying the town’s shift toward tourism and modern living.
