Two pictorial diagrams illustrate the information regarding the proportion of the time for various activities done by adults in the working day between 1958 and 2008.
From an overall perspective, it is evident that most senior individuals spent less time shopping and going out than the remaining categories during the surveyed period.
In 1958, the majority of adults preferred working and sleeping, at 33% and 32% respectively, followed by the data on hanging out with friends or family, at 19%. Travelling to work, however, accounted for the lowest value, at only 2%, compared to 6% for other activities and 8% for relaxing at home.
By 2008, the amount of working time witnessed a moderate increase to 40%. In the same trajectory, individuals spent more on recreational activities, such as relaxing at home and travelling to work, at 13% and 8% in their respective order, compared to other activities, at 8%. Meanwhile, the figure for sleeping dropped to a low of 25%.
