The pie charts illustrate the popularity of five sports among secondary school students in France in 1990, 2000, and 2010.
Overall, swimming remained the most popular sport throughout the period, while basketball and tennis gained popularity. In contrast, football and other sports showed a downward trend.
Swimming accounted for 39% in 1990, rose to 48% in 2000, then dropped slightly to 41% in 2010. Football increased slightly from 16% to 18% in 2000 but declined sharply to 8% by 2010. The share of other sports also fell steadily from 25% to 19%.
Meanwhile, tennis remained stable at 4% in the first two years and rose modestly to 7% in 2010. Basketball dropped from 16% in 1990 to 7% in 2000, but then surged to 25% in 2010, becoming the second most popular sport.
