The pie charts illustrate the proportion of people in Australia who preferred five different social media platforms—Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, and Pinterest—between 2011 and 2013.
Overall, Facebook was consistently the most popular platform across the three years, while Pinterest remained the least preferred. The ranking of the platforms did not change during the period, although the share of Facebook users declined steadily, while LinkedIn, Google+, and Pinterest saw gradual increases.
In 2011, Facebook held the largest share at 59%, followed by Twitter at 21%. LinkedIn accounted for 10%, while Google+ and Pinterest each represented 5% of users. By 2012, Facebook’s share had dropped by 10 percentage points to 49%, whereas Twitter rose slightly to 23%. LinkedIn increased to 12%, Google+ doubled to 10%, and Pinterest rose marginally to 6%.
In 2013, Facebook experienced a further decline to 38%, while Twitter’s share grew to 25%. LinkedIn continued its upward trend, reaching 15%, and Google+ also increased to 14%. Pinterest, though still in last place, rose to 8%.
